Soft 100% Cotton Batik Scarves

1. Classic drape. Hang the scarf around your neck with both ends falling evenly in front.
2. Parisian knot. Fold in half lengthwise, place it around your neck, and pull both ends through the loop.
3. Infinity loop. Tie the two ends together in a small knot, then loop the scarf twice around your neck and hide the knot.
4. Head wrap. Center the scarf at the nape of your neck, cross the ends over your head, wrap them back, and tuck. The 71" length gives plenty of fabric for a full wrap.
5. Shoulder wrap. Open the scarf flat and drape it over your shoulders as a light layer in air conditioning or on a cool evening.
6. Belt or sash. Fold into a narrow band and tie it at the waist over a dress or tunic.
7. Bag accent. Knot it around a tote or purse handle for a pop of pattern.

• Batik scarves (71" x 21", some 63" x 21"). Long and narrow, for neck scarves, head wraps, and layering. Most styles have a short fringe; look for "No Fringe" in the product name if you prefer clean edges.

• Dobby fabric scarves. Woven with a subtle textured pattern in the cotton itself, adding depth under the batik design.

Our botanically dyed scarves are colored with natural plant dyes, such as indigo and mango tree, instead of synthetic dyes. Natural dyes produce softer, earthier tones, and each dye bath varies with the plant harvest, so every piece is a little different.

• Look for "Botanically Dyed" or "Natural Dye" in the product name.
• Expect muted, organic colors such as indigo blues, soft browns, and warm neutrals.
• Care gently: cold water, mild detergent, and shade drying help natural dyes last longer.

Our scarves are made with a combination of hand-stamped copper blocks (cap) and hand-drawn wax lines applied with a canting pen, then dyed, boiled to remove the wax, and sun-dried on Java. The easiest test: flip it over. Real batik shows the pattern nearly equally on both sides, while printed "batik" is pale on the back.

• Kawung and Kawung Ceplok. Classical Javanese motifs from the royal courts, inspired by the sugar palm fruit and often read as symbols of purity and wisdom.
• Batu Pecah (Broken Stone) and Boulder. Organic crackle patterns inspired by stone.
• Kamboja (Frangipani), Hibiscus, and other florals. Coastal batik from Java's north shore embraced flowers and bright colors.
• Geometrics. Designs like Midnight ZigZag, Arrow, and Pink Grid are contemporary patterns created with our artisan partners.

Batik dyes are set into natural cotton by hand, so a little gentle care keeps colors rich for years, and the cotton gets softer with every wash.

• Wash separately the first few times. Some excess dye may release in early washes, especially in deep reds, indigos, and browns.
• Use cold water on a hand-wash or delicate cycle, with a mild detergent or baby shampoo.
• Skip bleach and harsh stain removers, which can lift the dye.
• Line dry in the shade. Long, direct sun exposure is the most common cause of fading.
• Iron on medium while slightly damp for a crisp finish.
• Expect beautiful imperfection. Slight shrinkage, small color variations, and edges that aren't perfectly straight are natural results of hand-dyeing and pre-washing, not defects.
