We just added a new size to the Kasih Co-op bandana lineup: the 27" mid-size batik bandana. It sits between our standard 21"–23" bandanas and our oversized 39" bandanas, and it solves a problem we kept hearing about: a regular bandana that pulls tight over thick or long hair or a bigger head, and a 39" that feels like more fabric than you want.

What Is the 27" Bandana?
Each 27" bandana measures about 27" x 27" (69 cm), is made from 100% ultra-soft cotton, and is hand-stamped with hot wax and hand-dyed by artisans on Java, Indonesia, using the centuries-old batik wax-and-dye technique. Like all real batik, the pattern shows equally on both sides. It costs $35. Because every piece is made by hand, measurements can vary by up to an inch.

Who Should Choose the 27"?
- Thick, curly or long hair. The extra fabric gives you enough length to tie a secure knot over a lot of hair without stretching.
- A bigger head. If a regular bandana feels tight at the knot, 27" is the first size to try.
- Bun and ponytail wraps. Enough fabric to wrap a larger bun or a thick ponytail and still tuck the ends neatly.
- A fuller neck scarf. More drape than a 21" without the volume of a 39".
Need full coverage for locs, protective styles, a turban or a hijab-style wrap? Go up to a 39" large bandana. Just want a neat, simple tie? A regular 21"–23" bandana is all you need. Still deciding? Our guide to bandanas for big heads and long hair goes deeper.
How to Wear a 27" Bandana

- Headband: fold into a band, tie at the nape or crown.
- Kerchief or half-wrap: fold into a triangle and tie behind your head, leaving your hair out.
- Bun or ponytail wrap: fold into a band and wrap around the base.
- Neck scarf: fold into a triangle and knot in front or at the side.
- Wild rag: the 27" works with shorter tails; for a long dramatic tail, the 39" is better.

Care
As with all hand-dyed batik, a little extra dye may release in the first washes, especially in reds and blacks. Wash separately in cold water, skip bleach and dry in the shade. Read our batik care guide for the full routine.
